COMMON QUESTIONS

WSET Level 1, 2 and 3 explained

Can I start directly with WSET Level 2?

Yes. WSET Level 2 has no formal prerequisite, so you can start directly with Level 2 if you want a broader and more detailed introduction to wine. Level 1 can still be useful if you prefer a shorter, more introductory starting point.

Do I need WSET Level 2 before WSET Level 3?

WSET recommends that Level 3 students hold the Level 2 Award in Wines or can demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge. If you are unsure, use our Level 3 readiness test before enrolling.

Which WSET level is best for a complete beginner?

Choose Level 1 if you want a short, accessible introduction. Choose Level 2 if you are comfortable committing to a more substantial course and want broader wine knowledge from the start.

How much more demanding is WSET Level 3 than Level 2?

Level 3 is a significant step up from Level 2. It requires deeper theoretical understanding, written answers, and analytical blind tasting. You should be comfortable with Level 2 knowledge before starting, and our Level 3 readiness test can help you assess whether you are ready.
