Build the knowledge and tasting skills required to explain how grape growing, winemaking and regional factors influence the style, quality and price of wine.

Study the key regions and grape varieties of Europe and the New World in significantly greater depth.

Learn to describe and evaluate wines using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine®.

From vineyard to the world's major wine regions

Sessions 1–2

Systematic tasting, grape growing, vineyard management, winemaking, maturation and factors affecting wine style and price.

Sessions 3–5

Germany, Alsace, Austria, Tokaj, Burgundy, Loire, Bordeaux, South West France and the Rhône Valley.

Sessions 6–8

Southern France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and premium wine regions of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and North America.

Sessions 9–10

Regional New World specialities, sparkling wines, Champagne and fortified wines.

Qualification

The WSET Level 3 exam

The Level 3 qualification assesses both theoretical knowledge and your ability to taste and evaluate wines systematically.

Unit 1 · Theory 2 hours

50 multiple-choice questions
4 short written-answer questions worth 25 marks each

Unit 2 · Tasting 30 minutes

Blind tasting of two still wines using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine®

Pass requirement 55%

At least 55% in each part of Unit 1 and a combined mark of at least 55% across the two wines in Unit 2

How the qualification is graded

Pass, Merit or Distinction

Your overall WSET Level 3 result is based on your aggregate mark across the examination papers. The published grade bands are Pass (55–64%), Pass with Merit (65–79%), and Pass with Distinction (80% or above, with no individual examination paper below 65%).

After you pass

Digital certificate & badge

Successful candidates receive an official WSET digital certificate and digital badge, providing secure, verifiable proof of the qualification that can be shared online and on professional profiles such as LinkedIn.

Do I need WSET Level 2 before Level 3?

WSET Level 2 is highly recommended but is not mandatory. Students with equivalent knowledge may enrol directly in Level 3. If you're unsure, take our readiness test or contact Eleanor Wine Academy for guidance.
