Australia’s Health Campaign on Alcohol & Cancer: What It Means for Wine Lovers ⚖️🍷

🍷⚖️ Australia’s latest national health campaign has reignited debate across the wine industry.

Its message?
👉 “Alcohol causes cancer in 7 sites of the body.”
📸 The image: a single glass of red wine — front and centre.

Backed by the Cancer Council, the campaign aims to raise awareness of alcohol’s health risks. But for many in the wine world, it raises another question:
Is wine being made a scapegoat? Or is this a much-needed reality check?
The campaign challenges the long-standing idea that red wine is somehow a “healthier” alcohol choice. Instead, it calls for more awareness about the link between alcohol and cancer risk, especially in light of wine’s often romanticised image in marketing.

At Eleanor Wine Academy, we don’t just swirl, sniff, and sip. We teach you to think critically about wine.
Our WSET courses help students develop a well-rounded, professional understanding — from global styles and production to the social and cultural context of wine and how it's communicated.

Because truly knowing wine means going beyond taste — it’s about context, responsibility, and informed choices.

💬 Now we want to hear from you:
👉 Should bold health campaigns like this change how wine is marketed or perceived?
