There are a few easy things you can do to improve your tasting skills, and increase your appreciation of wine
Don’t rely only on your taste buds. To make the most of your tasting experience, use your sense of smell, too.
Start with light whites (e.g. Riesling, Pinot Grigio) and move in progress. Some red wines, like Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, are bold and powerful. These characteristics can overwhelm your taste buds. This is why the wine lists at tasting rooms progress in the order of white to red.
Talk to almost anyone involved in wine, and what you’ll find is an enthusiasm they can’t contain! Once you feel ready to take your wine knowledge a step forward, sign up for one of our #wset wine courses!
