WINE LEGEND: Quintessa 2016

“Quintessa is a temple to a single Bordeaux-style Rutherford wine.” – WINE SPECTATOR

Quintessa Estate is located in the Rutherford AVA of Napa Valley, California. It makes just one wine from its 113-hectare estate, a Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend that consistently rates highly by critics. There are plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carménère on 26 vineyard blocks. Each block is farmed biodynamically and vinified individually to preserve the nuances of the land. As a result, Quintessa’s final blend is never exactly the same.

The growing season 2016 was near-perfect for Quintessa estate. The vines started moderately early and enjoyed ideal weather conditions in the spring, continuing throughout the summer and fall. The fruit reached peak ripeness and vineyard expression. The resulting wine is complex and elegant, with layers that envelop from the very first sip. Welcoming with aromas of cassis, blackberry, red currant and undertones of sage, thyme and rose petals, the 2016 Quintessa continues to expand in the glass as notes of exotic citrus, clove and fresh tobacco mingle with bright fruit. Full and rich, the wine is held together with refined tannins that interweave beautifully with flavours of dark chocolate, black cherries and blueberries. The wine is distinct for its depth of flavours, and will leave a lasting impression with its velvety texture and delightful perfume.
