WSET Level 2 in Haarlem - Wine Course in English
Course description
The WSET Level 2 in Wine is an intermediate qualification suitable for students wishing to learn about a broad range of wine styles as well as for those seeking to consolidate the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 in Wines.
The course is organized over 6 classes of 3 hours plus an extra day for the exam. The exam consists of 50 Multiple Choice Questions to be answered within 60 minutes. The minimum passing mark is 55%. Mark of between 55% and 69% is a "Pass"; mark of between 70% and 84% is a "Pass with Merit"; mark of 85% and above is a "Pass with Distinction".
Throughout the six lessons of three hours you’ll study the environmental influences and grape-growing options in the vineyard and how these will impact the style and quality of wine. You'll understand how winemaking and bottle ageing influence the style and quality of wine. You will explore and learn the principal and regionally important white and black grape varieties of the world. We will explore the most important wine regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce.
Our experienced educators will also teach you how to accurately recognize and describe these wines. In every session there will be at least six wines to taste. The wines will range in quality from acceptable to outstanding.
All wines that we use in our classes are officially approved by the WSET as a benchmark examples for the grape variety and/or region they represent.
What should I expect to learn?
- The characteristics of the international grape varieties and several regionally important grape varieties of the world, the different styles of wine they produce, and how to recognise them by the label.
- How wine grapes are grown, and the natural factors affecting the style of wines.
- Storage and service of wines
- Winemaking processes and the differences between the key sparkling, sweet and fortified wines.
- How to professionally describe wine and assess its quality using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
The price includes all the wines tasted, classes, study pack, exam, and if successfully completed, you will receive the official WSET certificate and lapel pin!
The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is suitable for individuals seeking a core understanding of wines.
This qualification explores the major grape varieties and important wine regions in which they are grown.
You’ll learn about the styles of wines produced from these grapes as well as key classifications and labelling terminology.
Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin, and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no entry requirements for this course.
It is recommended (not mandatory) that you hold the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines
or can demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge.
It is recommended that the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines in Class specification document is read before the start of the course.
