additional information
The WSET Level 1 Awards in Wines is a beginner course suitable for students starting a wine career or pursuing an interest in wine with no prior knowledge or experience of wine.
For individuals new to wine study, this qualification provides a hands-on, highly interactive (and fun!) introduction to the world of wine.
The course is organized over 2 evening classes of 3 hours plus an extra day for the exam. The exam consists of 30 multiple choice questions to be answered within 45 minutes. The minimum passing mark is 70%, meaning that 21 out 30 answers must be correct.
Throughout the lessons, you’ll explore and learn the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately, and make food and wine pairings. At the end of the course, you'll be able to recogninze the characteristics of the main international grape varieties (e.g. Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon); be knowledgable of regionally important grape varieties (e.g. White Zinfandel), and be able to make food and wine recommendations.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin.
