Riesling is an aromatic white wine grape variety of German origin. Riesling grape is characterized by its green skin, round shape, and moderate size. The flavour and sweetness or dryness of Riesling depending on the climate, vineyard location and soil, and production methods. It’s grown in Germany, France, Austria, Australia, New Zealand, The U.S. and used to make dry, off-dry, sweet, and sparkling white wines.
Riesling wines have pronounced fruity and floral aromas and high acidity. In cool climates, the wines exhibit green fruit and citrus. A warmer climate gives flavours of stone and tropical fruit. Although Riesling wines are often consumed when young, its naturally high acidity and pronounced flavours make it suitable for extended aging – well-made examples can develop smokey, honey and petrol notes.
